Sandra Sue Prentice, 74, of Topeka, passed away surrounded by her family Sunday, February 12, 2023.
She was born October 10, 1948, in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Cecil and Frances Bell. She attended Washburn University and obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and Criminal Justice.
Sandra was a Corrections Counselor with the Topeka Women's Prison. She made many accomplishments as the first female Corrections Counselor II.
She loved all animals, but especially enjoyed watching several animals and spending time in the nature. In her spare time, she would play bingo. Sandra's favorite thing to do was to spend time with family and friends. She also had a passion for cooking and collecting cook books.
Sandra married Frank "Jim" James Prentice on February 16, 1964 in Topeka, KS. Survivors include her husband, Jim Prentice; daughter, Sharon (Jacob) Lynn Urban; three granddaughters, Danielle Prentice, Aimee (Olivia) Urban and Kaitlyn (Joshua) England; and great grandchildren, Jacob Urban and Sylvia Urban; brother in law, John (Marilyn) Prentice and nephew, John Paul Prentice. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Burt Bell.
A private graveside service will be held. Sandra will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, Kansas 66604. In her honor, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society 5720 SW 21st, Topeka, KS 66604.
