Sandra J. Kibby

January 13, 1939 — January 22, 2022

Sandra Jane Kibby, 83, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022 in the comfort of her home.

Sandra rejoined her husband of 65 years, Robert "Bob" Kibby, who passed only weeks earlier on Christmas Day. They married on December 1, 1956 and became proud parents of two children. Though she left a huge hole in the hearts of the many who were not ready to part with her so soon, there is a comfort found in knowing that her own heart is no longer broken and that she is reunited with the love of her life, together in Heaven.

Sandra was born January 13, 1939, in Horton, Kansas, the daughter of Glen and LaVina (Ruble) Alderman. She graduated from Topeka High School.

Sandra inherited many recipes from her mother and grew a passion for cooking and baking on a grand scale. She was known for making meals that could feed an army around the holidays and at family gatherings. Her holiday ham, strawberry cake, Christmas cookies, and many other one-of-a-kind recipes have been loved by all and will continue to be for the generations to come. She enjoyed collecting cookbooks through the years, and acquired quite the collection that she enjoyed reading for leisure. Sandra always had a love for reading and researching.

When she was younger, Sandra enjoyed sewing, especially her children's Halloween costumes. Sandra's knack for artistry came out in her beautiful paintings, drawings, and highly anticipated birthday cakes for her grandchildren. Those who were blessed to call her mom, grandma, and great-grandma enjoyed receiving her personalized cards for almost every holiday, those that would be instantly recognizable on the envelope with her beautiful calligraphy. She greatly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she and Bob always enjoyed phone calls along with any chance to get together with family.

In her later years, Sandra and Bob enjoyed going out for steak dinners on special occasions. They also enjoyed date nights visiting with friends and dancing at The Moose.

Sandra was an Administrative Assistant for the State of Kansas for over 25 years, and performed clerical duties in a few medical offices prior to that. Sandra and Bob were members of the Topeka Moose Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary for years.

Sandra's husband, Bob, preceded her in death on December 25, 2021. Survivors include her children, Scott Kibby and Susan (David) Eckel; granddaughters, Andrea (Seth) Erickson, Aubrey Johns, Brooke (Levi) Adam, and grandson Joshua (Savanna) Eckel; along with 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Reed Alderman and Bob Alderman.

Sandra will be remembered fondly. Her legacy and family recipes will live on forever in many hearts and kitchens for generations to come. As she so often signed off from text messages to her loved ones in the recent digital age with "LOL" as she took it to mean "Lots of Love", we also end this in the same with her usage of acronym. LOL Grandma/Mom…forever and ever.

Private services will be held for Sandra's family. She will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery.
