S. Edith Allen

S. "Edith" Allen, 89, of Holton, Kansas, passed away September 14, 2005 at Holton Manor.

She was born November 27, 1915 in her parents', George E. and Phoebe N. Watson, home near Mayetta, KS. Edith attended Wigwam Grade School and graduated from Holton High School in 1933. She was united in marriage to George M. Allen on March 5, 1935. Edith was a homemaker and secretary. During her career as a secretary she was employed with Gossip Printery, Holton, KS; Bureau of Indian Affairs, Horton, KS; FHA, Veterans Administration Hospital, and U.S. Postal Service, all of Topeka, KS.

George and Edith were lifelong residents of the Holton area. Upon retirement, they enjoyed spending time together camping, fishing, and traveling. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, walking, and time with her friends at the Senior Citizens Center.

Edith held many memberships including, Columbian Chapter OES, NARFE, EUM, Crusader Sunday School Class, Faith Circle UMW, and the Holton Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by three sons; David G. Allen and his wife, Evelyn of Circleville, KS; Dale R. Allen and his wife, Connie of Holton, KS; and Stanley W. Allen and his wife, Allie of Montgomery, AL; and one daughter, Mary E. Magnusson and her husband, Keith of Bismarck, ND; six grandchildren, David Ross, Aaron Todd, Scott, Steve, and Carrie Allen, and Monica Gainsforth, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Edith was preceded in death by her loving husband, George; her parents; one sister, Neva; and one brother, Harold.

A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2005 at Evangel United Methodist Church, friends may call on the family at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service in the parlor.
