Ruth Schiller Jackson, 97, Topeka, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was born on December 20, 1915 in Kirwin, Kansas to Frank William Gustave and Edith May (Thomas) Schiller.
Ruth grew up and attended elementary school in Kirwin, Kansas. In 1924 her family moved to Abilene, Kansas where Ruth graduated from High School in 1932. She attended Park College in Parkville, Missouri for one year. She transferred Fort Hays State University where she graduated in 1936 with a bachelor's of science degree in education. Ruth taught high school from 1936-1941 in Nortonville, Clifton and McPherson, Kansas. She married John H. Jackson in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where they lived for a short time, returning to Topeka in 1952. She was a medical secretary for the Menninger Foundation retiring after 32 years.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church; Order of the Eastern Star, Topeka Chapter No. 462; American Association of University Women; lifetime member of Alumni Association at Fort Hays State University; V.F.W. Post No. 1650 Women's Auxiliary and Hill Toppers (Menninger Foundation) where she served as Treasurer from 1983-1986.
Ruth is survived by two sons, David H. Jackson, Fort Scott, KS and Michael H. Jackson, McBride, British Columbia, Canada; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, brother, Francis T. Schiller and sister, Katherine Mulanax.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Friday, May 3 at First Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Ruth will lie in state after 1 pm on Thursday at Penwell-Gabel-Mid-Town Chapel.
