Ruth Owens

Ruth (Myers) Owens, 97, Topeka, was released with love into God's care on Monday, July 4, 2005 at the Topeka Presbyterian Manor.

Ruth was born October 30, 1907 in Hoyt, the daughter of Alfred and Lavina Thomison Jacobson. She graduated from Hoyt High School and was a member of the Mission Church of Mayetta.

Ruth belonged to The Women of the Moose for 25 years. She also belonged to the Four Corners Club of Mayetta.

She married William H. Myers on March 13, 1927. Mr. Myers retired from Forbes Air Force Base in 1963. He was an electrician. He died October 22, 1963. She married Daymond Owens on June 12, 1972. Daymond retired from Santa Fe Railroad. He died March 27, 2001.

Survivors include daughters: JoAnn Bulger and her husband, G.L. of Overland Park and Shirley Blake, Gulf Breeze, FL, and a son William (Bill) Myers and his wife, Linda of Willard; A son-in-law, Bob Viergever and his wife Shirley of Willard, and a sister, Frances Chumley of Topeka. Nine Grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter along with several nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Charlotte Faye Myers who died at birth and another daughter, Doris Marie Viergever who died May 29, 1999.

She will be missed by her family that loved her.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 9, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Mrs. Owens will lie in state at the funeral home after noon on Friday and family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Friday. Burial will be in the Mayetta Cemetery.
