Ruth Margaret Ausherman, 95, Topeka, KS, died Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Eagle Ridge at Brewster Place.
She was born May 24, 1919, near Elmont, the daughter of Eppa C. and Margaret Price Ausherman. She graduated from Seaman High School in 1937 and from Kansas State University in 1943.
Miss Ausherman taught high school and junior high home economics in Kansas for 30 years; the last 22 years at Holliday Junior High in Topeka. She was also a paraprofessional for the Topeka Public Schools for 18 additional years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of Kappa Kappa Iota and Alpha Delta Kappa, honorary sororities for women in education. She was a member of the Topeka (local), Kansas (state), and American Home Economics Associations as well as the Kansas and American Vocational Associations.
After retiring, she volunteered at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Let's Help, Dovetail, and Brewster Place.
Survivors include a niece, Janet Lasley of Columbia, MO; and four nephews, Darrell Ausherman of Torrence, CA, Dale (Susan) Ausherman of Ann Arbor, MI, Gregory (Peggy) Lauver of Mesa, AZ, and Larry (Amy) Ausherman of Placites, NM.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her step-parents, Elizabeth and Lee Conwell; sister, Edna Faye (James) Lauver; brothers, Ernest (Beulah) and Arthur (Rachel) Ausherman.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at Prairie Home Cemetery, 35th & Menoken Road, Topeka. Miss Ausherman will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, where relatives and friends may visit from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
