Ruth Major, 94, Topeka, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2007 at Brewster Place.
Ruth was born July 30, 1913 in Topeka, the daughter of Frederick W. and Llewetta B. (Hewins) Keller. She was a graduate of Capital City Business College.
She was a Secretary and Vice President with Brier Insurance Services for 47 years, retiring in 1978. Ruth was a charter member and past President of both the Insurance Women of Topeka and Zonta Club. She was active in the Women's Division of Topeka Chamber of Commerce, Deacon and Elder of Potwin Presbyterian Church, where she was a member since 1924. She was also involved in the Women's Club of Topeka, Active Prime Timers, A.A.R.P. Chapter 37 and Stormont Vail Hospital Auxiliary. She was active in several Bridge groups.
Ruth married Vernon E. Major on September 5, 1936 in Topeka. He died October 29, 1985. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Henrietta (Bob) Schick, Topeka, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Ruth will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The casket will remain closed.
