Ruth Kitson Lawson, 93, of Topeka, passed away on December 21, 2018.
She was born on May 20, 1925 in Northampton, MA, the daughter of John Edward and Vera Amelia (Lawrence) Kitson. She had two sisters, Vera Sheppard and Mildred Cobb; and two brothers, John E. Kitson and George L. Kitson.
She graduated from University of Massachusetts in 1945, and earned her nursing degree from Yale School of Nursing in 1948.
She married Dr. Robert C. Lawson on December 4, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1981. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Carol Lawson.
She is survived by sons, Thomas K. Lawson, Ph.D., Robert C. Lawson, M.D., John C. Lawson, and Daniel M. Lawson; a daughter, Rebecca Lawson Giesie; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of First Congregational Church, and actively volunteered at the Ward-Meade Historical Park, League of Women Voters, Mulvane Art Museum, and for over 40 years at the Kansas Historical Society.
In following her wishes, Ruth donated her body to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Cremation is planned and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
