Ruth Ilene Bailey-Banks Lucksted, 72 of Topeka, formerly of Eskridge, left her family and friends on earth to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at Aldersgate Village, Topeka. She was born November 22, 1933 in Bradford, KS, the 3nd of 15 children to Wyatt M. Bailey and Cozie C. Smith-Bailey, on November 22, 1933. Ruth attended Eskridge School and received her Nurses Aide Certificate from KAW-AVTS. She worked for Jack and Charlotte Waugh in Eskridge and then for Hillhaven and Eventide Convalescent Center in Topeka. Ruth lived in Eskridge, Kansas for 37 years before moving to Topeka. She married Edward Banks and they later divorced. Ruth married David J. Lucksted on January 14, 1987 he survives. Ruth enjoyed cooking, reading, embroidery, painting, coloring, sewing, playing cards and watching cooking shows.
She was preceded in death by her parents a sister, Bertha Irene Bailey-Brown, and three brothers, David, Newton and Warren Bailey. Survivors include two daughters, Robin Bailey-Bullock Benson and her husband Gary of San Diego, CA, and Yvonne Bailey-Banks Sudduth and her husband Rev. Howard of Wetmore, KS; five grandchildren, Stacey Banks, Justina Crain, Trina Allen, John Bullock II, and Tania Sudduth, 13 grandchildren, two sisters Norma Bailey & Azalea Jackson, both of Topeka and five brothers; Wyatt, Annapolis, MD, Mark (Bill), Camarillo, CA, Joe, NYC, Lett (Chino), Topeka, KS and Lawrence (Pete), Manila, Philippines; two nieces, Ida Raimey, and Mary Benson, Topeka; two nephews, Oliver Brown, Topeka, and Dale Brown, Englewood, CA, and a host of cousins, great nieces and great nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 25, 2006 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Eskridge Cemetery. She will lie in state after 12:00 noon on Thursday at the funeral home.
