Ruth I. Smith, 84, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2006 at her home. She was born on July 3, 1922 in Pawnee County, NE, the daughter of Eliphus and Florence Brayman Reedy. She graduated from Washburn Rural High School. Following high school, she attended Southwest Bible Institute in Texas where she met her first husband, Everett Edward Smith. Together, they served as traveling evangelists in Assembly of God Churches for ten years. Upon his death, Ruth returned to Topeka. Ruth married Ralph Smith on February 5, 1955. He survives. She was employed as a clerk for the Kansas Secretary of State office and a homemaker. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church and was a congregational pianist and musician in three area churches. Other survivors include one son, Reverend Randal Smith and his wife, Beckie of Lynn, MA, two grandchildren, Nathan and Gabriel Smith, and one sister, Chrys Hills of Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Maurice, Robert and Eugene. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at First Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery. Ruth will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Thursday evening.
