Ruth E. Vogel, 96, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 with her family at her side.
She was born January 9, 1920, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Walter G. and Tina G (Luecht) Kohlschreiber .
Ruth was a 1937 graduate of Topeka High School. She then graduated from the Jane C. Stormont School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She served as a nurse with the U.S. Army at the 91st General Hospital in Oxford, England. After the war she worked in various nursing positions in Kansas, retiring from the Topeka Convalescent Center in 1981.
Ruth's first love was her family. She was also very involved with her church family at St. John's Lutheran Church. She belonged to church quilting and women's groups and was a proud member of the Jane C. Stormont Alumni.
Ruth married Edwin Vogel on October 12, 1952 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Topeka. He preceded her in death on September 1, 2012.
Survivors include a son, Steven Vogel (Linda), daughter, Jane McNeive (Ed), son Warren Vogel and a brother, Richard Kohlschreiber. Also surviving are grandchildren Sherrie Hoffman (Zane), Diane Nickoley (Tyson), Ashley Cobb (Matt), Aaron, Andrea and Rebecca McNeive, Zoe and Zara Robinson and 9 great-grandchildren.
Ruth will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Monday, March, 28, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 S.W.10th Ave., Topeka, KS, 66604 where the family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 to 8:00 that evening.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March, 29, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 901 SW Fillmore, Topeka, KS 66606. Interment will follow at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 S.W. 6th Ave., Topeka, KS 66605.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or The Stormont Vail Foundation, 1500 S.W. 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
