Ruth E. Gladfelter, 92, died Wednesday March 23 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
Born in Topeka, KS. to Fred and Nellie Coursey, she graduated from Topeka High School, class of 1928 and attended Washburn University for two years. She was employed by the Topeka Board of Education from 1956 to 1978 as the Library Secretary at Topeka High School. Ruth was a member of Potwin Presbyterian Church for 51 years where she was active in a number of groups and organizations. She was a 30 year volunteer at Stormont-Vail Hospital, a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and a member of the Topeka Senior Bowling League.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Gladfelter, Sr. and a son, Steve Gladfelter.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet Gladfelter Sipes, now residing in Vancouver, Washington and a son, F.E. "Skip" Gladfelter, who lives in Lancaster, Kentucky and a brother-in-law, George Gladfelter,98, from Topeka, Kansas. She has four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Potwin Presbyterian Church, 400 SW. Washburn on Thursday, March 30th at 11:00 am. A light luncheon will follow in the church memorial hall. A private burial service will be held later that day at Mount Hope Cemetery. No visitation is planned.
