Ruth Margaret (Jurey) Carlson, 88, of Topeka, KS, went home to be with her Lord on February 8, 2013, at Brewster Place, Topeka, KS.
She was born June 11, 1924, in Washington County, KS, the daughter of William and Ruby (Wells) Jurey. Ruth attended Graham Grade School District 50 and graduated from Agenda High School in 1942 and then graduated from Clarks Business School, Topeka.
She moved her membership from Brantford Covenant to Bethel Covenant in Topeka. Ruth was active in the church, where she met Marvin.
Ruth and Marvin Carlson were married June 9, 1950.
She was active in the Air Base Chapel in Reece Air Force Base, Lubbock, Texas, and in Greenville Air Force Base, Greenville, Mississippi, where Marvin was stationed. Following the service years, home was established in Topeka, Kansas City, MO, Kansas City, KS, where she was active in the First Covenant Church of Kansas City, Missouri.
In June of 1976 the family moved back to Topeka. Ruth was active in the Brookwood Covenant Church. Ruth retired from Jostens after 12 years of service.
Ruth was member of Daughters of the American Revolution in which she was active for a few years, as long as she was able.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Carlson, Topeka, KS. Other survivors include daughter, Margo Satterfield and husband Joel, and grandson Derek Jesse (DJ), Greenbrier, AR; son, Douglas Carlson and wife Nancy, Overland Park, KS, and granddaughter, Cindy Purtle and husband Jim, and great granddaughter, Laura, El Dorado Springs, MO, grandson, Kevin Carlson and wife Jessie, and great grandson, Ezra, of Colorado Springs, CO, and grandson Stephen Carlson, Overland Park, KS; son, Cameron Carlson and wife Karen, Lincoln, NE, and grandchildren, Kaylyn Carlson, Purcellville, VA, Curtis Carlson and wife Alicia, and great granddaughter, Lydia, Waterford, MI; daughter, Susan Barker and husband Jerry, Topeka, KS; a son, Timothy Carlson and wife Vivienne, Kansas City, KS; sister-in-law, Orcena Jurey, and sister, Edith Lundquist, Clifton, KS. Ruth was a good mother and was recognized for her ready smile for everyone.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Kenneth Jurey, and sister, Opal Aden.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Brookwood Covenant Church, Topeka, KS, Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Rusco Cemetery, rural Clifton, KS. Ruth will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka, KS, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
