Rufus Junior Sumner, 93, Topeka, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 at a local care center.
Rufus was born August 23, 1923 in Winfield, the son of Rufus S. and Viola D. (Chambers) Sumner.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He owned and operated Sumner Plumbing.
He was a member of the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Local Union #165 in Topeka and the Colly Creek Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses.
Rufus married Ruth E. Mueller on March 11, 1946 in Winfield. She survives. Other survivors include sons, Ronald (Sharon) Sumner, Topeka, Kenneth Sumner, Wichita; daughter, Linda (Ray) Yarman, Rogers, AR; 4 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and siblings, Faye Smith, Iris Howard, both of Thayer, KS, Ray Sumner, Grove, OK. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Rufus was cremated and Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Colly Creek Kingdom Hall.
