Ruby L. Vandevord, 81, Topeka, died Thursday, October 6, 2005 at the VA Hospital in Topeka.
She was born August 17, 1924 in Topeka, the daughter of Cecil and Pearl Hancock Collier. Ruby was a lifelong Topekan.
She served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was a lifetime member of the Post No. 1650 of the VFW.
Ruby married John W. Vandevord on July 8, 1958 in Miami, Oklahoma. He died April 29, 2004. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Roxanne Morse.
Survivors include her sister, Thelma Hilbert, Topeka and her brother, H. Don Collier, Prairie Village, and two grandsons, K.J. Morse and Shane Morse, Blue Springs, Missouri.
A joint memorial service in memory of Ruby and John will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, October 14, 2005 at the Chapel at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Regional Medical Center.
Private inurnment will be in Mount Hope Mausoleum.
