Ruby M. Thaete, 91, Topeka, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
She was born July 23, 1914 in Bloomington, NE., the oldest of ten children of John and Anna Petersen Hogeland. She graduated from Bloomington H.S. in 1932. She married Hilbert R. Thaete on April 18, 1943. They lived in Belleville, KS before moving to Topeka in 1961. They were married 52 years prior to his death in 1995.
Ruby was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She had been a volunteer with the Lutheran Braille Workers, the VFW Auxiliary and the VA Hospital. She had lived at McCrite Plaza Retirement Community for the last eight years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Dorothy Waggoner, brothers Robert & Roy Hogeland.
She is survived by her son Lee Thaete & his wife Lorraine, Shawnee, KS and daughter Janet Zima & her husband Joe, Topeka. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Janna & husband Jeff Spahr, Milford, NE; Karen & husband Greg Karpenko, Minneapolis, MN; Frederick Thaete & wife Diane, Naperville, IL; Laura & husband Scott Zenthoefer, Sapulpa, OK; Patrick Thaete, Overland Park, KS; and Lisa Thaete, West Des Moines, IA. She had five great-grandchildren: Andrew & Jonathan Karpenko, Will Thaete, Emma Zenthoefer, and Savannah Spahr.
Surviving brothers, sisters, and sisters-in-law are: John & Edith Hogeland, Amy Peterson, Gladys Meyer, and Martha Hogeland, all of Alma, NE; Bertha Waggoner, Holdrege, NE; Ernie Hogeland, Avoca, IA; Preston & Dee Hogeland, Fort Collins, CO; and Joann Hogeland, Kearney, NE.
The family will greet friends from 6-8pm Wednesday evening at Penwell-Gable Mid Town Chapel. A private family graveside service will be conducted prior to the Memorial Service at 12:00 on Friday, Oct. 7, 2005 at Faith Lutheran Church.
