Ruby Ann Storbeck Oberhelman, 94, Topeka, died Wednesday,
April 7, 2004 at Midland Hospice. She was born Aug. 11, 1909 in Vassar, Kansas to Robert F. and Pearl Mae Kraft Storbeck.
The family moved to Atchison, Ks. where Ruby started grade school.
Then they moved back to Vassar, Ks. where she graduated
from Vassar Grade school and Lyndon High School in 1927.
She moved to Topeka, Ks. in 1928 and rented a room from
Rev. Sam Breithaupt and attended Strickler Business School.
She worked for Mr. Pugh in marketing and Mr. Ed Marling
at Harris-Gore.
She returned to Vasser for a while to work at home then
returned to Topeka to work for C.G. Blakely, Ins.
She married Lyman Oberhelman on Jan. 16, 1932 in Topeka
and moved to a farm west of Topeka where she lived until
March 1984 when she and her husband Lyman moved to
Aldersgate Village.
Ruby was a homemaker, had been a member of
Grace United Methodist Church since 1929 and a member
of the Home Extension Unit for 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lyman Oberhelman
he died on March 12, 1991, an older sister Eldora Storbeck
Middleton and a younger brother Dean Robert Storbeck.
Survivors include two sons, Norman Oberhelman of Topeka
and Kenneth Oberhelman of Bella Vista, AR., 8 grandchildren
and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Oberhelman's memorial service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church
at 11:00 A.M. on Monday April 12, 2004. Private interment
will be held earlier in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Oberhelman will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town
Home where friends and family will meet from 6 P.M.
to 7 P.M. on Sunday April 11, 2004.
