Ruby F. Gilbert

Ruby Faye Veatch Gilbert, 106, of Topeka, passed away Friday, November 22, 2019.

She was born December 11, 1912 in Ellis County Kansas, the daughter of John Marshall and Sara Jane Bowers Veatch. She attended Fort Hays State College. She attended Washburn University where she received a Master's Degree in Education. She taught school in Ellis County and in Plainville, Kansas. She was a teacher for Topeka Public Schools.

Ruby was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women for many years, Chapter G J of PEO Sisterhood, Community Concert Association, Philomathean Study Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of Topeka Retired Teachers. She volunteered for several years at Findables.

Ruby married Lael O. Gilbert on August 6, 1945 in Plainville, Kansas; he preceded her in death on August 13, 1985. Survivors include a son, Gary (Sharon) Gilbert; daughter, Marcia (Kenny) Smith; daughter-in-law, Kathy Gilbert; grandchildren, Chad (Michelle) Gilbert, Brant Gilbert, Justin (Kristy ) Gilbert, Noel Gilbert, Heather (Caleb) Read, Jennifer Gilbert, Brian Gilbert, AJ (Denise ) Lawson, and Audra (Ty ) Davies; great-grandchildren, Taryn Gilbert, Tatum Gilbert, Mia Gilbert, Cal Lawson, Lizzie Lawson, Teller Davies, Charlee Davies, and Kolton Rooney. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Neil Gilbert and brothers, Millard and Leo Veatch.

The family will greet friends on Friday, November 29, 2019 during a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.

A Funeral Ceremony will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Mount Hope Cemetery and Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th, Topeka, KS 66604. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
