Royce A. Stubblefield, age 81, of Topeka passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022.
Royce was born July 16, 1941, in Cassville, MO., the son of James and LaVerne (Barton) Marley.
He graduated from Coffeyville High School. After high school he worked in the shoe industry for Endicott Johnson and Tom McCann. He enjoyed 24 years of employment as a computer operator for Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka until 1990. He was employed afterwards as a computer operator for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas before retiring in 2015.
Royce married Patricia A. Stubblefield on June 8, 1971 at First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka.
Royce was a member of the South Knollwood Baptist Church of Topeka. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School at the church for several years.
When younger, Royce was quite the outdoorsman enjoying all manner of hunting challenges including for rattlesnakes with his son Dan in Waynoka, Oklahoma. Royce always loved to fish and as he slowed down, enjoyed watching college and professional sporting events especially basketball and particularly KU basketball. Royce also had a creative side spending time crafting handmade wall art of driftwood and dried Autumn leaves. He enjoyed gardening and wrote an occasional poem. He also enjoyed listening to music with gospel hymns and country being his favorites. Family and friends were often the benefactors of his good sense of humor.
Royce was humble and kind, never thinking himself better than others. He made this world a better place. Not a day will go by that we won't think of him and miss him.
Survivors include his wife; Patricia A Stubblefield. Son: Daniel R. Stubblefield, Topeka. Daughters: Pamela A Palenske (Fred), Topeka; Terri Pease, Berryton. Grandchildren: Hunter Stubblefield (Matt) Topeka; Kyle Palenske and Luke Palenske, Topeka. Christie Pease, Berryton. Stefine (Pease) House (Eric) Nashville, TN. Hunter Pease, Berryton. He had several great grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Funeral ceremony starting at 2:00 p.m., both Monday, December 12 at Mount Hope Chapel, 4700 SW 17th, Topeka.
