Roy Lee Cockerham, 57, Topeka, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center.
He was born Feb. 15, 1948 in Washington D.C., the son of Roy W. and Hazel Hedges Cockerham.
He married Marilyn Breight on Nov. 23, 1968 in Topeka. They later divorced. He married Pam Hunter on Nov. 28, 2001 in Topeka.
He will be missed by his wife, his daughter Julie McDonald and her husband, Kelly; his son Ryan Cockerham and his wife, Cheryl; his step-daughter, Stephanie Auguste and her husband, Ewan.
Roy Lee was preceded in death by his father, Roy W. Cockerham.
Other survivors include his mother, Hazel Cockerham, Topeka; his brother, Robert Cockerham and wife, Jeanette, Topeka; granddaughter, Breckyn McDonald; grandson, Killian McDonald, and step-grandson, Darius Auguste. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Roy graduated from Topeka West High School in 1966 and received a business degree from Washburn University in 1970. He worked as an insurance agent for Toedman, Inc., and the Al Janosik Agency.
He was a member of the Washburn Alumni Association, involved in the Topeka West High School Alumni Association, and was involved in the many activities of his children and grandchildren. He was a long-time member of the Church of the Nazarene, and served for six years in the Kansas Army National Guard.
Roy was a participant at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MO in the cancer research program.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Monday at Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Kansas Army National Guard providing a military funeral detail.
He will lie in state after 9 am Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 pm.
