Rowland E. Hyle

Rowland E. Hyle, 84, Topeka, passed away August 13, 2012. He was born February 27, 1928, in Ft. Scott, KS, the son of Harry and Margaret Rowland Hyle. He graduated from Ft. Scott High School and Ft. Scott Jr. College, where he played on the football team. He later attended the University of Kansas. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a credit control officer for Credit Union 1, retiring in 1995.

Rowland was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir, and served as an elder and deacon. He was also a member and past president of the Downtown Optimist Club. He served on the funeral detail for VFW Post 1650. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Masonic Lodge, and Arab Shrine in Topeka. Rowland was a sports enthusiast, Jayhawk supporter, and enjoyed traveling. He was active in the Republican Party for many years.

On September 2, 1967, in Topeka, Rowland married Lorraine Schrader. She survives. Also surviving are sister, Ellen (J.C.) Johnson; two nephews, Mark and David Johnson; and niece, Margaret Anne Johnson.

Private interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, 817 SW Harrison, Topeka, KS 66612. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
