Rosetta Louise Illig, 85, of Topeka, died on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Midland Hospice House.
Louise was born on November 16, 1928 in Ozawkie to John and Lilly (Meyers) Metzger. She graduated from Ozawkie High School and during her time there she was a member of the State Championship basketball team.
After graduation, Louise moved to Topeka and shortly after, was married to Caleb Vernon Jones; he preceded her in death in 1980. Louise was married to Robert Illig on April 27, 1985 in Topeka.
Louise was a member of East Side Baptist Church in Topeka. Some of her greatest passions included KU basketball and spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Survivors include her husband, Bob Illig of Topeka, son, Gary (Kathy) Jones of Topeka; two daughters, Verna (Rex) Smith of Derby and Dee Padilla of Topeka; step-son, Mark (Penny) Illig of Perry; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Darlene (Woodie) Boyette of Auburn and Linda (Jim) Metzger of Valley Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Everett King Jr. and Alvin Ray King and four sisters, Lecta Decker, Oleta King, Arlene Payne and Betty Deboer.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 19 at the Mount Hope Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St., Topeka. The family will receive friends on the day of the service from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
