Ron grew up in the intermountain West and graduated Soda Springs High School and the University of Idaho. He received his MSW from the University of Kansas. Early in his career he was clinical director of community mental health centers in Garden City and Hiawatha, KS. As a clinical social worker and psychotherapist he worked in both in-patient and out-patient mental health settings and in private practice. He considered it an honor to serve as a Department of Defense Military Family Life Consultant at the end of his career. He retired in 2010.

Ron was a runner of marathons, triathlons and countless shorter races. He shared an interest in the outdoors and physical fitness with both his son Barry and brother Dennis. He was a practitioner of Vipassana meditation and Tai Chi. He and Mary shared numerous meditation retreats through the Mid-America Dharma group as well as private retreats at the Benedictine monastery in Atchison. Ron attended the Topeka Friends (Quaker) meetings and was sustained by that community and the mutuality of those relationships. He had an enduring love of literature and learning.

Ron loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and most dogs. He was a kind, gentle man with a wry sense of humor and a calming presence. He will be missed.
