Ronald R. Simmons, 56, Topeka, died Friday, March 9, 2007 at his home.
He was born August 11, 1950 in Tildon, Nebraska, the son of Paul Joseph and Betty Bergman Simmons. He was raised in Carbondale, and graduated from Carbondale High School. He received his BS degree from Washburn University and a MS in Social Work from the University of Kansas. He served in the US Army from 1969 to 1972.
Mr. Simmons worked as a social worker for the State of Kansas for over 20 years, and was Director of Training and Staff Development at the Youth Center at Topeka. He also worked part time at the Shawnee County Mental Health Agency as a mental health scanner. He also helped raise money for MDA and for Project Topeka.
He married Vicki Washburn on May 21, 1977 in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Kyle R. Simmons, Mark A. Simmons, and Eric W. Simmons, all of Topeka; one grandson, Ronald Ray Simmons II; a brother, Ernest Simmons of Olpe; two sisters, Pamela Brennan and husband, Frank of Silver Lake and Deb Powell and husband, Gary of Lecompton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
