Ronald E. Paradis

Ronald E. "Ron" Paradis, 66, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at his residence.
Ron was born June 30, 1944 in Casper, Wyoming, the son of Orville and Vonda (Bendrix) Paradis.
He was a 1962 graduate of Washburn Rural High School where he was a four year basketball starter who helped lead the Junior Blues to three state basketball tournaments including a state championship in 1960. In 1962, he was named as a Scholastic Magazine First Team All-American. He was a two-time All-State member and remains the school's all time leading scorer with 1,609 points.

Ron then went to Kansas State University where he was a three year letterman in basketball and played in the 1964 Final Four. He remains one of the Wildcat's top 100 career scorers.

From 1969 to 1997, Ron worked at WIBW in both radio and television during which he was named Kansas Broadcaster of the Year on five occasions. He did play by play for the Kansas State Network, was a pioneer of the sports radio call-in format and created Paradis Productions which produced memorable characters such as the Kriskenko Brothers, Argo Snerdball, and bits like Ron's Rod and Reel. Most recently, Ron was inducted into the Topeka-Shawnee County Sports Council Hall of Fame.

Ron married Betty R. Stricklen on August 27, 1966 in Manhattan, KS. They later divorced. She survives. Other survivors include son, Brock (Stacey) Paradis, Chicago, IL; daughter, Jenna (Vic) Riggin, Topeka; grandchildren, Kyle, Maxwell, Emmit, ; twin sister, Yvonne Paradis, Topeka ; brother, Greg (Wendy) Paradis, Grand Island, NE ; niece Kara Paradis, Kansas City; and nephew Justin Paradis, Kansas City. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three beloved dogs, Geronimo, Bershivers and Panther.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 1. 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 10th Street. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
