Ronald Dean "Ron" Reaves, 62, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013.
He was born July 9, 1950 in Yokohama, Japan, the son of Ira and Mary Edith (McDiffett) Reaves. He was a graduate of Manhattan High School, Manhattan, KS and KAW Valley Technical School. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Reaves was an electrician at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for over 23 years. He was a member of the Rubber Workers Union, Local No 307 and a member of American Legion Post No. 400.
He was an amazing father and grandfather to his own children and anyone else who looked like they needed a dad. If anyone ever needed a helping hand, he was always there.
He spent the majority of his time working hard. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing softball, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include three children, Shannen (Daniel) Rodriguez, Topeka, Samantha Reaves, Hoyt and Jacob Reaves, Norfolk, VA; seven grandchildren, Jade McConnell, Julian (Makara) Mace, Christian Reaves, Skyler Reaves, Meadow Reaves, James Bellew and Ashlyn Reaves; siblings, Brenda (Gary) Hammond, Assaria, KS, George Reaves, Junction City, KS, Michael (Teresa) Reaves, Riley, KS and Robert (Rebecca) Reaves, Salem, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Dennis "Denny" Reaves.
A celebration of Ron's life will be from Noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the Local #307 Union Hall, 1603 NW Taylor, Topeka, with military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy at 1 p.m. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Alta Vista Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family.
