Roland E. Orth, Sr., 88, of Mayetta, KS, formerly of Wymore, NE, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015 at the Medicalodges Nursing Facility of Jackson County in Holton, KS. He was born April 9, 1926 in Beatrice, NE, the son of William and Effie (Knoche) Orth.
Roland resided in Wymore until moving to Mayetta in 2003. He was employed as a mechanic at Spady Runsie in Beatrice, NE until retiring. He enjoyed camping and enjoying his friends in a good hand of cards and bowling as well as playing his bass guitar in a band with his sons and grandson and also played his guitar with the Praise Team Band at Faith Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Roland married Clara Elizabeth Womack in 1945, then divorced in 1960 and married Barbara Kesterson in 1965. She preceded him in death in 1998. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia at birth and Lola Buckmeier in 2010. Survivors include four sons, Roland E. Orth, Jr. of Ava, MO, Gerald L. Orth of Mayetta, KS, Robert Orth of San Antonio, TX, Paul Orth of Oklahoma City, OK, one daughter, Paulette Orth of Mayetta, KS, fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church in Topeka. Graveside committal services will take place at 2:00 p.m. in Blue Springs Cemetery, Blue Springs, NE. Roland will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka, KS 66604.
