Roland E. Ron Godfrey, of Meriden, passed away March 15, 2006 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Topeka to Roland A. & Anna Rosevelt Godfrey on June 17, 1939. As a young man he lived in Irvine, California, where he worked on an orange ranch. It was in California that he met and married his wife, Guyla Hahn on March 29, 1957. She survives. Returning to Kansas in the early 1960's, he made his home in Jefferson County, where he worked for many years as a painter and paperhanger. For the past 17 years, he has been the maintenance supervisor at The Fontainebleau Apartments in Topeka. His children are Ronnie Godfrey, Rossville, Tim Godfrey, Meriden and Vicki Haid, Topeka. He also has seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of Topeka. He leaves one brother, Darold Godfrey, Topeka and three sisters, Barbara Montgomery, Valley Falls, Judy Norton, Meriden and his beloved youngest sister, Sharon Stevens, Meriden. She, along with her husband, Tom, lovingly nursed him throughout his illness. No service is planned. Private inurnment at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka will be at a later date. Family and friends plan to join together on his birthday to have a celebration of his life. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
