Roger T. Young, 65, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011.
Roger was born July 22, 1945, near Gridley, Kansas, son of John and Eleanor (Jasper) Young. He graduated from Gridley High School in 1964. Roger served in the US Air Force from 1965- 1968. He worked at Kansas Power & Light/Westar for 32 years, until his retirement in 2000.
Roger married Trenda Kussman on May 29, 1965, in Yates Center, KS. His passions were dancing and historic preservation. Roger was involved with the restoration of Historic Holliday Park neighborhood, several homes, and The Devon Apartments.
Roger is survived by his wife, Trenda, Topeka; daughters, Tyra Young, Topeka; Jandi Terrell, Topeka; Megan Perdue, Indianapolis, IN; and Carrie Dinwiddie, Topeka; seven grandchildren, Truman and Vivien Terrell; Carson, Isabel, and Alice Dinwiddie; Cole Calvert; and Abby Scheideman; and two sisters, Alberta Charlene Knoblock, Yates Center; and Shirley Kathryn Malley, Emporia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Claudine Jones and Phyllis Heilman, and brother, Arthur Young.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Roger will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2011, at the funeral home; where family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sunday.
