Lois Irene Miller, 84, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 one day before the death of her husband, Roger Dale Miller, 84, who died Sunday, January 24, 2016.
Lois was born February 23, 1931 in Overbrook, the daughter of Earl and Iva Mae (Eaton) Heffner. She graduated from Overbrook High School.
Roger was born November 12, 1931 in Sebeka, Minnesota, the son of Louis and Violet (Strom) Miller. He graduated from Sebeka High School and served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Lois was employed by the Menninger Foundation, retiring in 1993. Roger owned and operated Miller Auto Parts for eight years before becoming the Director of the Combat Air Museum at Forbes Field. The couple enjoyed camping, travel, big band music, and dancing. Roger was a private pilot with qualifications to fly Cessna aircraft. Lois was an avid fan of soduku and jigsaw puzzles. In their careers and home lives, the couple worked to enrich the community around them.
Roger and Lois were married April 25, 1953 in Overbrook. Survivors include daughter Janet Miller of Topeka, son Philip Miller, and daughter-in-law Kiki Petrosino of Louisville, KY. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Beatrice (Miller) Sundeen, Evelyn (Miller) Lindahl and Shirley (Miller) Russell. Lois was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Merl Heffner.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
