Rodney Alan Chmidling, 58, passed away Friday, March 22nd, 2024.
He was born November 15, 1965 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Francis J. Chmidling and Patricia A. (Chmidling) Clark. Rodney is survived by his mother, Pat Clark; brother, Tim Chmidling of Berryton, KS; sister, Sherry (David) Umscheid of Eudora, KS; step brothers, Dave, Tim and Bruce Clark; step sister, Laura Danielson uncles, Harold (Freda) Chmidling of Tulsa, OK and Dave "Bus" (Sharon) Chmidling of Jefferson City, MO; his aunts, Melba Dodson of Onaga, KS and Louise Babcock of Nortonville, KS and many cousins and friends. Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Francis Chmidling; step-father, Jim Clark and sister in-law, Deanna Chmidling.
Rodney graduated from Gaithersburg High School in Gaithersburg Maryland, where he lived for 10 years with his mother and step father. He attended elementary school in Topeka at Gage School and Jr. High in Gaithersburg. Before moving back to Kansas in 1988, he worked for Aspen Systems Corp. in Rockville Maryland from June 1985 to June 1988. After returning to Kansas, he lived in Topeka and worked at Ed Bozarth Dealership from September 1988 to March 1998 when he moved to Kansas City and worked for Black and Veach from April 1998 to March 2002. In 2005, he went to work for Applebee's from 2005 to 2015 when he went to work for Cohen Esrey and was still working for them when he was killed in a car accident on March 22, 2024.
Rod loved kittens and dogs and we had a daushaund that he grew up with for 17 years. He then got a kitten, BW, who lived to be 17. Rod had several other kittens and had 4 when he passed away.
Rodney was an avid car collector.
Rod will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, Kansas. His family will greet friends and relatives one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas.
