Roberta L. Doty, 81, of Topeka, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021.
She was born November 19, 1939, in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Edward and Norma (Clark) Wells. She received a High School Diploma from Butler High School.
Roberta was employed by the Department of Aging for the state of Kansas as a secretary for over 20 years.
She had a passion for cooking and loved being in the kitchen. Her family praised her apple pies and cinnamon rolls. Roberta also enjoyed collecting cook books and recipe cards from all over. She was an avid reader and always had a book in her hand when she wasn't in the kitchen. Roberta would email her family "The Daily Extra" that would consist of a funny joke, history fact of the day, or a simple little note telling them to have a good day. She also enjoyed playing games on her computer, watching Dancing with the Stars and having friendly competitions on who would win the season, watching Steve Harvey's Family Feud, sewing, embroidery and crafting. Roberta had a passion for collecting various dolls and later passed the collection on to her daughter. She enjoyed road trips with her family and would stop every morning to grab a local newspaper to read while on vacation. Once a month, Roberta would meet with her three friends, Rita, Kathie, and Dee for lunch as their "Girl's Day Out".
Roberta married Rex Doty, Sr. on March 28, 1968 in Lawrence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1986.
Survivors include her son, Rex Doty, Jr.; daughter, Michelle (Stephen) L. Roberts; grandchildren, Robert Ashbaugh, Jr., Christina (Kevin) Williams, Charles (Amanda) Ashbaugh; eleven great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; and two sisters, Doris Dutcher and Judith Creswick. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Shirley Hart.
The family will greet friends from 3:00pm-5:00pm on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka. Interment will follow at Osage City Cemetery.
