Robert L. "Bob" Wilson, 82, Topeka, passed away Monday, June 26, 2017, at Midland Hospice House.
Bob was an adoring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a wonderful friend. His generous spirit, humble disposition, wisdom and wit touched many lives.
He was born December 19, 1934 in Pittsburg, the son of Lawrence E. and Anna A. (Rubel) Wilson. His family moved to Topeka in 1940 where he attended Topeka Public Schools. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1952 and from Kansas State University in 1958 with a degree in Business Administration.
He served 6 years in the U.S. Army, including active and reserve time, and attained the rank of Sergeant.
He was employed as an Accountant with Fleming Foods Co. Inc. from 1958 to 1995, retiring as the Division Controller after 36 years of service.
Bob married his high school sweetheart, Shirley R. Williams, on February 1, 1958 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include their children, Mike (Maria) Wilson, Patty (Jerry) Burkholder, both of Topeka, Anna Marie (Jon) Nicolet, Burlington, and Colleen (Randy) Brink, Wichita; grandchildren, Jesse Wilson, Jebel (Jarvis) Odgers, Joshua (Nicole) Wilson, Brandy (Nick) Janeski, Megan (Chaz) Steele, Jessica, Kevin and David Brink, Jacob and Nicole Nicolet; great-grandsons, Ryder Janeski, Elijah and Ezra Steele, Elden and Arlo Odgers.
Bob enjoyed volunteering at the Topeka Rescue Mission, traveling stateside and abroad with Shirley after retirement, spending time with his Fleming Retirees' group and friends, and especially spending time with his large family. Nothing gave him greater pride or joy than these relationships.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Rescue Mission.
