Robert Wible

Robert Travers Wible, 78, of Topeka, went to be with his Lord on March 7, 2006 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

He was born March 14, 1927 in Alliance, NE., the son of Sedric E. and Alta C. Phillips Wible.

He graduated from Lincoln High School in Lincoln, NE. in 1944, and attended the University of Nebraska where he was affiliated with Sigma Nu fraternity.

In 1962 Mr. Wible came to Topeka where he worked in the field of health education for the National Foundation- March of Dimes, and later for the American Cancer Society, before entering a career in insurance as well as a small business owner. He retired in 1988.

He served in the Navy during WWII aboard the aircraft carrier USS Sergeant Bay-CVE, in the Asiatic-Pacific Area. He was a member of American Legion Post # 1, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1650, and Elks Lodge # 204, all of Topeka.

He was also a member of Orient Lodge # 51 A.F & A.M., Scottish Rite, Arab Shrine, and Order of Quetzalcoatl; a past member and president of Tecumseh Kiwanis; and a past member and board chairman of Topeka Youth for Christ. He was active at Topeka Bible Church.

He married Joan L. Obrist of Stromsburg, NE on March 24, 1951. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Scott Wible and his wife Kay, Burnsville, MN; two daughters, Christie Robinson and her husband Terry and Terri Hernandez and her husband Jose, all of Topeka; and seven grandchildren.

Mr Wible will lie in state after 2:00 pm Thursday, March 9 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 7-8:30 pm that evening. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am, Friday, March 10 at Topeka Bible Church. Interment will be at 11:00 am Saturday, March 11 in the Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Lincoln, NE.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, sent in care of the Arab Temple, 1305 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66612 or to Topeka Bible Church Building Fund, 1100 SW. Mulvane, Topeka, KS 66604.
