Robert "Bob" Valyer, 77, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2006 at his home.
Bob was born July 30, 1929 in Enid, OK, the son of Ernest and Theresa Valyer. He grew up and attended school in Emporia, KS.
He married Lonita Cook in 1950. They had three children, Suki, Jeff, and Dana; and three grandchildren, Chad, Katie, Dakota, and one great granddaughter, Hannah. Lonita predeceased him in 2004.
Bob was employed by Farm Bureau Insurance, the Lyon County Sheriff's Department, and was also head of security at the Kansas State Fair; of which he transferred with all three to Topeka in 1963. After many years of service, Bob retired from all three jobs.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Betty L. Huske, in 1970. With Betty's five children, Nancy, Karen, Mark, Tim, and Lori, they decided that eight was enough. Grandchildren are Chuck, Rendy, Travis, Nicole, Tasha, and Ashlee and three great grandchildren, Nataleigh, Kendrick, and Mackenzie. He was preceded in death by Nancy and Chuck.
Bob was a member of Emporia Lodge No.12 since 1953; the Arab Shrine, Provost Guard Unit; and was a member of the Nomad Camping Group.
Funeral Services for Bob will be at 11:00 a.m., Wed., August 9th at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel in Topeka. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery & Mausoleum. He will lie in state after 12 noon on Tues. where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. that evening. The family requests that everyone bring their special memories of Bob to share at his service.
