Robert L. "Grandpa" Tindell, 71, Topeka, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Stormont Vail.
Bob was born May 9, 1941 in rural Osage County, the son of Eugene and Edith (Ferris) Tindell. He graduated from Scranton High School in 1959. After school, he served in the U.S. Navy until 1966.
Bob worked for Goodyear for 30 years, retiring in 2000. He was an original member of the Topeka Tea Party, enjoyed playing golf, hunting golf balls, and collecting "treasures". He had a passion for tinkering, and could fix anything, from a car or lawn mower to a flashlight. There was no one Grandpa met who wasn't immediately his friend. He touched so many lives and he will be greatly missed.
Bob is survived by the light of his life, wife Beth (Jungmann), whom he married April 30th, 1972 in Carbondale. He is also survived by his sons Robert Allen (Jane) Tindell of Lawrence and William Eugene (Whitney) Tindell of Muskogee, OK (sons of Darlene Harris); and Brian James (Stacy) Tindell of Shawnee; Blake Aaron (Shauna) Tindell of Topeka; and Brad Justin (Lyndsay) Tindell of Topeka. Bob's greatest joy was his eleven grandchildren: Brenden (Robert); Juliana, Gage, Trey and Jaden (William); Evangeline and Josefina (Brian and Stacy); Hailey and Hunter (Blake and Shauna); and Ryleigh and Landry (Brad and Lyndsay). Bob is survived by brother, Wayne Tindell, Topeka; and sisters, Donna Wilcox, Auburn, WA, Frances Oates, Topeka, Linda Williams, Lecompton, Edie Tindell, OK, Lucy Tindell, Topeka; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, John and Eddie Tindell.
Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
