Robert E. "Big Bob" Smith died Wednesday December 24 at a Topeka Nursing Home.
He was born May 13, 1925 in Redfield, KS the son of Willard and Bertha Smith, one of seven children. He married Hazel M. Lowry on September 27, 1941 in Nevada, MO. Hazel preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, Robert A and Randy Smith of Auburn; a daughter Marcia K. Moore of Topeka; 3 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Bob moved to Topeka in 1945 and started his career in sales with the Grand Union Tea Co. He then moved on to car sales, selling Studebakers for Nagels Motor Co., and then he sold Fords for Mosby Mack. He owned a Champlin gas station at 29th & Kansas Ave. for several years. He then returned to selling ford trucks and freightliners for Willard Noller. Most recently he owned his own hydraulic business, Smith Sales and Service.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday at Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel. Inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
