Robert S. Reed, 80, of Topeka, passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2007.
He was born July 28, 1926 in Burlington, KS., the son of Stanley and Mary Rudruff Reed.
After attending school in Burlington, KS, he served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II. Bob began his career in the early 50's and worked with Evans Electric in Kansas City for 14 years. in the late 60's, he established his own successful electrical contracting business, Reed Electric, in Topeka. Some of his largest projects include Volume Shoe Distributing, the State Supreme court building, Westridge Mall, Washburn University and Hill's. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local # 124 and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).
During his retirement years, amoung other things, he enjoyed traveling, poker night, fishing, hunting and coffee with friends.
He married Marian Lucille Karr in burlington, KS. She survives and currently resides at Aldersgate Village Assisted Living. He is also survived by his children, Philip Reed (Sharron), Edwardsville, Kansas, Carole Sue Bogner, Topeka, Kansas and Michael Reed (Gail), Lexington, Kentucky. There are 7 surviving grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Bauer and Marjorie Fitzhugh, as well as a son, Roger Paul Reed and a grandson, Dustin Paul Reed.
Mr. Reed will lie in state after 1:00 pm, Monday, Jan. 29 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, Jan. 30 at the funeral home with burial to follow on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007.
