Robert R. "Bob" Herrick, Sr., 73, of Topeka, died Friday, June 11, 2004 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born on December 1, 1930 at Emporia, the son of John Frank and Zlenna Belle Love Herrick. Mr. Herrick was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He spent most of his adult life in the construction field. For the past six years, he managed a retirement community. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 400, Philip Billard Post No. 1650, V.F.W. and the Moose Lodge. He married Maria Benedict on July 18, 1998 in Topeka. She survives. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Berneil Colglazier, Ione Hubert and Ila Whitlock and 3 brothers, Lee, Ira and Lester Herrick. Other survivors include two children from a previous marriage, one daughter, Lorie Weakly and her husband Bill of Topeka, one son, Robert Herrick, Jr. of Topeka, one step-son, Robert E. Benedict of Springfield, Missouri, two grandsons, Taylor and Dylan Weakly, three step-grandchildren, Billy, Nicole and Ivy Benedict and three brothers, Dale, Harold and Gary Herrick, all of Topeka. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Herrick will lie in state after Noon Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday.
