Robert E. McKee, 76, Topeka, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007.
He was born August 28, 1930, the son of Joseph W. and Doris (Coe) McKee. He grew up in Topeka, attending Oakland Grade School, Crane Junior High and graduating from Topeka High in 1948. Following graduation, he joined the US Navy, where he served 4 years with the 103rd Sea Bees, spending two years on Guam and eight months on Kwajalein.
After graduating from Washburn University in 1956, he worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 30 years, retiring in 1987 as a Senior Engineer.
He was an Eagle Scout, a member of Masonic Lodge #51, and volunteered at the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library as a Telephone Pioneer repairing Talking Books.
He married Twilla L. Standerfer, June 12, 1953 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Sharon (John) Garrison, Ponca City, OK, Meredith (Jerry Hofman) McKee, Topeka; son, Robert E. (Cathy) McKee, Jr., Honolulu, HI; three grandchildren, Hannah and Sam Garrison and Max Linenberger; and a brother, James (Marietta) McKee, Topeka.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. McKee will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
