Robert L.€œBob” Kibby

Robert Lee "Bob" Kibby, 87, of Topeka, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 25, 2021 surrounded by his family and loved ones.

He was born June 2, 1934, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Ernest and Hazel (Wilcox) Kibby. He graduated from Topeka High School and furthered his education by completing courses at Washburn University.

Robert married his sweetheart Sandra Alderman on December 1, 1956. To this union 2 children were born, Scott and Susan. He served in the United States Army and later in Naval Reserves as a Seabee. Bob worked for the state of Kansas for over 50 years and retired from the Kansas Department of Agriculture/ Division of Water Resources.

Bob worked hard for his family but also enjoyed a little competition playing fast pitch softball and coaching his son's little league teams. His love for sports led to ushering at KU basketball and football games for over 30 years, as well as KU relays.

In his later years, he enjoyed his morning trip to the local donut shop to meet with friends and he relished the opportunity when he could bring one of his grandchildren along. He also enjoyed traveling to visit family.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandpa and great- grandpa, always spending special time with them, celebrating birthdays and holidays. He loved his family.

Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sandra Kibby of Topeka. Other survivors include his children, Scott Kibby and Susan (David) Eckel; granddaughters, Andrea (Seth) Erickson, Aubrey Johns, Brooke (Levi) Adam, and grandson Joshua (Savanna) Eckel; along with 11 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his brother James "Jim" (Barbara) Kibby and their daughter Lori (Mike) Hathaway. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private services and military honors for family and friends were held in the chapel at Mount Hope Cemetery on December 30, 2021. He is laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas. A video is available of his services which can be found online under his obituary for you to view.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family for the purpose of the purchase of a headstone in his memory in c/o Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66604.
