Robert L. Jones passed away on June 14, 2018 in Topeka, KS.

He was born August 31, 1930 in Topeka, the son of Ruth and Kenneth Jones. He graduated from Highland Park High School, attended Baker University and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Architecture. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He married Norma Matoush on June 8, 1952 and they just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

He served in the Navy for 2 years as a draftsman prior to joining the firm of Kiene and Bradley for 30 years. He also worked for the Landmark Hotel Corporation and the Schwerdt Design Group as well as enjoying a private architectural practice. His work as an architect can be seen throughout Topeka in prominent buildings and private homes and he was well known for his many pen and ink sketches of historic landmarks, buildings and residences. He enjoyed sailing as a hobby and was a member of Shawnee Yacht Club for many years. Bob was inducted into the Highland Park HS Hall of Fame as well as the Topeka Tennis Association Hall of Fame for his instrumental role in founding Wood Valley Racket Club. He volunteered later in life with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Topeka. He was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church. Bob was a wonderful husband, father and Papa to his nine grandchildren, enjoying adventures with them at their home on Lake Pomona as they grew.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia.

Bob is survived by his wife Norma, his brother Ronald Dean of Lenexa, daughter Karen Miller (Jay) of Iola and their children Drew Miller (Laura) Alisa Miller (Tommy) and Bryan Miller; son Martin Jones (Vanessa) of Murrieta, CA and his children Nicole (Andrew) Amanda Jones, Aaron Jones and Nigel Jones and daughter Shelley Krane (John) of Evergreen, CO and their children Abbie and Riley. Bob had one great-grandson, Derek Carty.

A celebration of life will be held at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Road, Topeka, KS on Sat. August 4th at 1:00.
