Graduated from Kansas State University in 1965 with a degree in animal husbandry. He was an outside foreman at the Gooch Feed Company Research Farm, Manhattan, KS from 1961 to 1966. He was an associate editor for the Kansas Farmer Magazine, Topeka, KS from 1966 to 1983. He was an instructor at TARC from 1985 until his illness and death. He received a third degree brown belt in Karate in 1986.
