Robert "Bob" L. Heikes, 83, of Topeka, passed away, Friday, January 9, 2004 at Midland Hospice House.
He was born December 28, 1920 in Clay Center, KS the son of Rama and Mary (Allgire) Heikes. Bob was a 1949 graduate of Kansas State University.
He was a military veteran serving in the United States Army in the 95th Infantry Division during WWII. He served from 1942 until 1945.
Mr. Heikes was employed as an accountant for K.P.L. from 1949 until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of Downtown Kiwanis Club. As an active member of First United Methodist Church he served on various boards and committees, taught Sunday School Classes, and sang in the choir almost 50 years and volunteered unselfishly in many areas.
He was married to Margie R. Smee December 25, 1941 in Clay Center, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include:

Four grandchildren Robert Gatewood, Rod Gatewood, Erica Rupp, Jared Rupp and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Dana Heikes and his sister Ruth Janson.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2004 at First United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to First United Methodist Church, 600 S. Topeka Blvd., Topeka, KS 66603. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
