Robert "Bob" Allan Harr went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning June 10, 2012, he was 72 years old.
Bob was born in Connellesville, Pennsylvania, on September 6, 1939, to his parents LeAnna and Lloyd Harr. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, and beloved son in law Randy Flanagan who went to be with the Lord on the same day as Bob. Randy was the husband of Mary Flanagan.
Bob worked for Bud Wertzburger Upholstery Shop when he first came to Topeka. He also served his country while being in the National Guard for many years. Bob worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a Car Man, responsible for the upholstery work to the passenger trains and other maintenance duties. He took retirement from Santa Fe. Bob worked at Meadow Lanes Bowling Alley in Topeka, as a Certified Brunswick Maintenance Specialist, responsible for maintaining the bowling machines and lanes along with many other responsibilities. He was a Corrections Officer with the State of Kansas, and also served as their Fire Safety Officer as well as being the Educational/Training Officer, responsible for instructing and mentoring inmates and co-workers in many different trades, (Electrical Work, Plumbing, Carpet Installation, Upholstery, Painting, Carpentry Work and much more). Bob retired from the Correctional Facility in 2002.
Bob married Maria Haney on December 2, 1972. She survives. Bob is also survived by six children, Carmen White, Topeka; Mary Flanagan, Topeka; Ron (Heidi) Haney, Topeka; David Haney (Dortha), Topeka; Barbara (George) Selleck, Kansas City; Mary Jean; 13 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two sisters in Pennsylvania.
Bob was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Topeka. He was also a member of the German/American Club for many years which he enjoyed very much and had many friends. Bob loved to travel during his retirement years with his wife Maria. His favorite place to visit was Germany. Bob was known for his quick wit and for always having a joke or funny story to tell. Everyone that knew and loved Bob knew that he was always willing to help others in need with no questions asked. Bob was a "Jack of all Trades" and he mastered many. During his life, Bob wore many hats here on earth and he touched so many lives. Bob would stop and visit with anyone, and he had a way of making you feel like you had known him forever. Bob's smile and laughter was contagious to everyone around him. He believed in living life to the fullest, and not letting a day go by without laughter. He will be remembered for being a great husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend. Bob was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Services for Bob and Randy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 15th, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka. Graveside services for Bob will immediately follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
