Robert H. Brandenburg

Robert H. Brandenburg, 77, of Silver Lake, passed away Saturday November 8, 2008. He was born June 14, 1931 in Topeka, the son of Herman G. and Emma S. Dannenbrock Brandenburg. He grew up in Menoken and Topeka, graduating from Topeka High School in 1949. He went to Washburn University, where he was a member of Alpha Delta Fraternity. He earned a BBA degree in 1954, then served in the Air Force. Afterward, he worked as a computer programmer, taught computer programming, sold insurance, and for much of his working life was an owner-operator truck driver. He retired when his wife started having health problems, but worked on and off, and delivered Meals on Wheels, until her health wouldn't allow him to leave her unattended. He then became her 24-hour-a-day caregiver, and did whatever he needed to make sure she was taken care of, comfortable, and able to stay at home. For several years, they spent their winters in Harlingen, Texas, enjoying the warmer weather and reconnecting with old friends. He married Lavonne A. Danielson on October 4, 1962 in Seattle. She passed away November 20, 2005. Survivors include his son Todd Brandenburg, Topeka, his daughter Elizabeth Parker and her husband Kimball, of Olympia WA, his sister Roberta Holmes, of Walnut Grove, MO, and brother Larry Brandenburg and his wife Liz, of Northville, MI. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 14th, at Penwell Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. He will lie in state at the funeral home after 12:00 noon Thursday November 13th, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Goetz Sacred Music Fund, in care of St John's Lutheran Church, 901 SW Fillmore, Topeka, KS 66606.
