For several years, they spent their winters in Harlingen, Texas, enjoying the warmer weather and reconnecting with old friends. He married Lavonne A. Danielson on October 4, 1962 in Seattle. She passed away November 20, 2005. Survivors include his son Todd Brandenburg, Topeka, his daughter Elizabeth Parker and her husband Kimball, of Olympia WA, his sister Roberta Holmes, of Walnut Grove, MO, and brother Larry Brandenburg and his wife Liz, of Northville, MI.
