Robert E. Wager, Sr., 84, Topeka, passed away March 4, 2014, at Midland Care.
He attended Leavenworth High School and Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. Robert worked for Southwestern Bell from 1950 to 1983, retiring as district marketing manager. During his life he was a member of the Elks Club, Telephone Pioneers of America, German American Club of Topeka, and the Lion's Club.
Robert was a skilled handyman and loved helping family and friends. He also enjoyed working in the yard and traveling.
Robert was born September 26, 1929, in Leavenworth, the youngest child of Joseph and Augusta Wager.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Joseph A. Wager and Dr. Henry P. Wager, and sisters, Clara Szczygiel and Bernice Brown.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 40 years, Irma (Strebert) Wager, his son, Robert, E. Wager, Jr., Topeka, stepchildren, Christine A. Barth, El Dorado, and Mark A. Smith, Kansas City, MO, grandchildren, Nicolas, Michael, and Brian Wager, step grandson, James Smith, and five great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Greta Inkman, Joan Poss, Ron Szczygiel, Paula Gettino, David Wager, Sheila North, Lynn Serniuk, Dr. Gael Wager, Susan Wager and Paul Wager.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th, Topeka.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1011 N Desoto Road, Lansing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis Children's Miracle Network or Midland Care.
