Robert Eugene Robinson, 92, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2010.
He was born December 1, 1917 in Marceline, MO, the son of Henry K. and Edna (Sallee) Gelzer. He was a graduate of Topeka High School and attended the University of Kansas, Northwestern University and graduate of U.S.C.'s Institute of Business Economics. He served in the South Pacific with Navy Seebees during WW II.
He was employed 45years for Santa Fe Railroad, retiring as Assistant Vice-President of Information Systems in 1982. He was a former Licensed Professional Engineer for the State of Kansas.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a Life Member of American Railway Engineering Association, Chairman, Data System Division Association of Railroads and Santa Fe Retirees Club. He was Past-President of West Topeka Kiwanis Club, Past Lt. Governor, Capitol District, Kansas Kiwanis, and a life member of Kansas Kiwanis Foundation. He was a member and Past President of Shawnee Country Club, member of Orient Lodge #51 AF & AM, Topeka Consistory of Scottish Rite and Arab Shrine Temple. He was Scoutmaster Troop 7, Topeka. He was a member of the Jayhawk Council Executive Board, Council Commissioner, and Treasurer and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.
Robert married Ila F. Carlin on April 1, 1946 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Pamela Jeanne Seiler (Steve), Paradise Valley, AZ; 3 granddaughters, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. Entombment will follow at Mount Hope Mausoleum, Topeka. Mr. Robinson will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
