Robert E. Leggitt

Robert Eugene Leggitt, 86, Topeka, KS, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 13, 2012. He was born May 15, 1926, in Eureka, KS, the son of John Raymond and Florence Rozalia (Honn) Leggitt. He was a graduate of McPherson High School and attended McPherson College, where he met his first wife, Dorothy Saylor. Together they had six children. They later divorced and he married Betty Bauer in 1967. Betty preceded him in death in 2004.

Robert had a great love of music and was a member of the John Paul Jones Band in the late 1940's. He continued to play bass and sing throughout his life. Robert and Betty very much enjoyed singing together at local nursing homes and churches. He was a member of the Painters & Paperhangers Union, Local 96. After Betty's passing, Robert met Karen Morriss, they later married and enjoyed helping others through handyman services. He loved working on his rental properties and taking care of others.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Leo; daughter, Judy; and step-son, Larry Reaser. He is survived by wife, Karen, of the home; son, Steve and Cindy Leggitt, Sr. of Tecumseh, KS; daughters, Linda and Donald Henderson of Henderson, NV, Kathy and David Goostree of Paxico, KS, Debbie and Maurice Johnson of Santa Clara, CA, and Karen and Ralph Bone of Wauna, WA; step-son, William H Reaser; step-granddaughters, Amy Hettig and Jill Bisso; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Leggitt was cremated. At his request, no services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 North Kansas Avenue, Topeka, KS or Marian Clinic, 1001 Southwest Garfield Avenue, Topeka, KS 66604.
