Robert E. Holmes

Robert E. Holmes, 64, of Osage City, formerly of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook. He was born on May 1, 1946 in Topeka, the son of Robert C. and L. Belle Trezise Holmes. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War where he served on the U.S.S. Topeka.

Bob married Marilynn Claypole. They were divorced. Survivors include one daughter; Christine Merrifield of Topeka, two grandchildren; Courtney Merrifield and Carl Merrifield of Osage City, his four siblings; Wanda (Jack) Meakins of Topeka, Mary (Bill) Hipsher of Auburn, Brenda E. (Chris) Gomez of Topeka, Claudine (Larry) Tevis of Topeka and his step-father; Robert Sipes of Carbondale.

Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends and share memories at the home of his sister, 4024 S.W. 43rd St. in Topeka at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Brookside Retirement Community, 700 W. 7th St., Overbrook, Kansas 66524, Sheltered Living Inc., 2044 S.W. Fillmore St., Topeka, Kansas 66604 or to Heartland Hospice Services, 1033 S.W. Gage Blvd., Topeka, Kansas 66604. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
